I am curious to hear a bit more about Trevor’s (?) comment about Caffeine increasing his level of lactate before he went and had to take a test. Does ingesting caffeine have a negative effect on performance from a purely physiological level as it relates to lactate levels? I know the science is very clear on its benefits as an ergogenic aid. Thanks in advance for your response.
Hi Mario, I have to admit that I don’t remember making that comment. I thought it was Rob who said that since he’s the coffee drinker and I never drink it. @robpickels would have a lot more experience than me with caffeine impacting a test.
But, my two cents - caffeine is an ergongenic aid. I think the issue with caffeine before a test has less to do with the impact on performance and more to do with the impact on results. The goal of a test is to get very accurate lactate numbers to help determine your training zones. if caffeine has any impact on your lactates (up or down) you’re going to get less accurate zones.
